LM Studio lets you download and run open large language models locally on your own computer, and its current focus is Bionic, an agent for work and code built on that runtime. With Bionic you can create and edit documents, slides, PDFs and software; every change is saved automatically, and the agent also handles coding tasks, automations and computer control. Real-time voice transcription lets you talk to it, with audio processed on-device and support for multiple languages.

The local side runs on the LM Studio runtime, using MLX and llama.cpp under the hood, and you can pull the latest local LLMs directly inside the app for simple chats or agentic tasks. For heavier work it can also run frontier open models such as GLM 5.2, Kimi K3 and DeepSeek V4 Pro, and the site says its cloud services operate with zero data retention. It sits in the chatbots and assistants category but goes well beyond chat.
