Recapext

Revolutionize web reading with AI-powered, ChatGPT-integrated, free summarizing extension

Recapext, presented on its own site simply as Recap, summarizes any portion of a webpage with ChatGPT for readers who do not want to wade through a whole article. Select the part of the page you care about, send it to ChatGPT through the extension, and get a condensed version back; the site calls this smart splitting and summarizing. The project is open source, with its code on GitHub, and it installs into Chrome.

For students and researchers, this makes it a lightweight reading aid in the education category: highlight a passage, read the summary, move on. Because the extension relies on ChatGPT to do the summarizing, the site's FAQ addresses whether a ChatGPT account is needed, so read that before installing. A changelog and a contact email are also listed on the page.

The extension is free. If you read a lot of long web pages and already use ChatGPT, add Recap to Chrome and try it on your next article.
